As part of What the Shell Filters, 1000 beetle postcards are being distributed throughout the Hudson Valley between May and September 2026.
Each postcard contains the same beetle template.
You are invited to transform it.
Draw on it, paint over it, write on it, perforate it, embroider it, collage it, react to it, or simply let it travel with you for a while. Any medium is welcome as long as the postcard format and dimensions remain intact.
There is no right or wrong way to participate.
How to participate
- Transform the postcard using any medium or technique you want
- Keep the postcard size unchanged
- One submission per participant
- Mail it back before September 30, 2026 using the address printed on the reverse side
A downloadable version of the template is also available below for anyone wishing to participate remotely. Print on white card stock paper (4×6) if you want your work hanged on the wall!
Returned postcards will progressively become part of the final exhibition of What the Shell Filters presented from October 14 to December 14, 2026.
The Colony is an invitation to observe, alter, collaborate, leave a trace, and have your voice heard.
No artistic experience needed.

Como parte de What the Shell Filters, se están distribuyendo 1000 postales de escarabajos por todo el Valle de Hudson entre mayo y septiembre de 2026.
Cada postal contiene la misma plantilla de escarabajo.
