One beetle. A thousand possible stories.
As part of What the Shell Filters, I invited people throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond to transform a beetle postcard. Each person began with the same outline and made it their own through drawing, painting, writing, perforation, embroidery, collage, or other media.
Together, these postcards form The Colony: a collective artwork that brings different voices into the same space. Each contribution offers another way of seeing, imagining, and expressing something individual.
Thank you to everyone who transformed a postcard and sent it back. Your work is part of the exhibition at Greig Farm in Red Hook, New York, from October 14 to December 14, 2026.

The Colony also appears in the exhibition book, What the Shell Filters, alongside my five paper beetles, close-up photographs, and the stories behind their patterns. A QR code connects the book to this page, including postcards that arrived after it went to print.

Un escarabajo. Mil historias posibles.
Como parte de What the Shell Filters, invité a personas del valle del Hudson y de otros lugares a transformar una postal con un escarabajo. Todas comenzaron con la misma silueta y la hicieron suya mediante el dibujo, la pintura, la escritura, la perforación, el bordado, el collage u otras técnicas.
Juntas, estas postales forman La Colonia: una obra colectiva que reúne voces diferentes en un mismo espacio. Cada contribución ofrece otra manera de mirar, imaginar y expresar algo personal.
